The Gundaroo Men’s Shed has been formed by a group of Gundaroo residents and operates in the old pavilion at Gundaroo Park. We’re a non-profit organisation incorporated with the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) and follow their guidelines and benefits including insurance and OH&S policy and practices.
Aims and Objectives
The objectives of the Shed are to advance the health and well-being of our members by providing a safe and happy environment where skilled and unskilled men can, in the company of other men;
(a) Pursue hobbies, pastimes and interests
(b) Learn new skills, practice and pass on old skills
(c) Learn about their own and other men’s health and well-being
(d) By their efforts, contribute to their families, their friends, the Shed and their community
(e) Mentor younger men
(f) Ensure that all members of the Shed understand that they have ownership of the shed.
Our primary aim is to offer a friendly and happy environment for men from the Gundaroo district where all are welcome to undertake whatever activity they want; to build confidence and comradeship and where they’ll have a non-judgemental listening post.
We also aim to service a variety of needs in the Gundaroo district.
This includes community work for places like the School, the Park and any other worthwhile community projects. There’s no cost to the community. We also offer support to older residents who may need help with jobs around the house that they’re no longer able to undertake. These could be chores such as wood supply in winter, repair to a footpath or other such small items. We don’t intend to compete with tradespeople in the village.
We’re fortunate in having members with a wide range of skills who can become mentors for other members. We’re able to give instruction in basic computer skills for those who aren’t confident in this work. We have access to people to come and address members about health and fitness and strategies on coping with life’s experiences.
