GFS is Flickering Back On
It has been almost an entire year without local screenings at the Gundaroo Soldiers Memorial. The good news is that the Gundaroo Film Society (GFS) is launching the 2021 season on 20th March with the feel-good film ‘Yesterday’ (2019) directed by Danny Doyle
Welcome to the Gundaroo Film Society—one of Australia’s oldest film societies, still running in the same venue since 1905.
All films are screened at the Gundaroo Soldier’s Memorial Hall. a historic public hall built as the Elite Skating rink in 1890.
From rudimentary beginnings—projections from the back of trucks into the hall, and the occasional outside showing—through to reel-to-reel projectors in a fireproof projection room, the society now boasts a high definition digital cinema projector, a drop-down screen, surround sound and an enthusiasm for film.
Gundaroo Film Society is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers with a large and friendly structure. Screenings are always great social events. The society plans a program of films for each year with screenings, usually two films, once a month on a Saturday night. Members are invited to bring food and drinks and tables are set up as part of the theatre.
