Gundaroo Men’s Shed current activities May through to July
Last year the Gundaroo Men’s Shed Committee responded to a Grant opportunity with the Australian Men’s Shed Association and following a lengthy process were successful in obtaining a large grant to improve the social and working accommodation areas.
The NSW Govt local member, Wendy Tuckerman, presented us with the cheque during a visit to the Men’s Sheds in March at one of our regular Thursday meetings.
The purpose of the grant was to add a free-standing awning to the front of the building running the full length, 22 meters and 4 meters wide. Included is concrete floor, security lighting and external power supply to enable work to be undertaken outdoors. Plumbing to fix the collapsed guttering system and provide rainwater to the parks tanks was included.
Also included in the work shed was dust extraction equipment and a range of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure a high standard of safe working conditions. An upgrade to the electricity supply with the inclusion of 3 phase power was included in the grant
The social room was also part of the grant with a kitchen installed including running hot water supply. A reverse cycle air conditioner will provide a comfortable area for the social aspects of our regular meetings for all seasons of the year.
Now we are in the process of obtaining final contractor quotes and start dates for the building activities to commence. First up being the Awning and Concrete work. The commencement of which has been dependant on the opening of the now completed Gundaroo Park sporting and amenities building.
A temporary shipping container is being rented to provide temporary storage of the contents of each room so work can proceed with the refurbishment activity.
Following completion some areas will be available for use by community groups in addition to that provided by the new sporting and amenities building.
The upgrades will enable a greater number of members to enjoy safer and more comfortable work and social environments. We are hoping for an official opening of upgraded facilities during the Spring season.
