Get Ready and Get Connected at the same time

Gundaroovians new and old have been invited to get prepared for the coming fire season and at the same time get an introduction to the delights of contributing to the growth and wellbeing of our local community. The official Bush Fire Season starts on 1 October and to help prepare the community the Gundaroo Rural Fire Brigade is holding its annual Get Ready Day at the Fire Shed on Saturday 20 September, 2025 from 10am to 2pm. At the same time the Gundaroo Community Association is holding its awareness-raising Get Connected event at the Gundaroo Soldiers’ Memorial Hall. In addition the Gundaroo and District Historical Society will be having an open Day at the Literary institute (immediately in front of the Fire Brigade Shed).

See the full programme of the Get Ready day here.

Get Ready Day –  Sept 20

At the Fire Shed in Cork Street there’ll be ongoing demonstrations and presentations by brigade volunteers to bring awareness about fire safety in the home, around the home or on rural property.

The demonstrations cover kitchen safety, how to use a firefighting pump, including how to problem solve issues, and speaking with our captain about property protection.

The presentations include electrical fires highlighting the safe use of lithium-ion batteries, the fire permit process and the four simple steps to making your ‘Bush Fire Survival Plan’.

There’ll be a BBQ and finger food available, and The Men’s Shed will sell coffee and tea. A number of former drivers of Gundaroo’s first fire truck Roo4, will be available to speak to the passing public about their experiences.

A story on Roo4 can be found on Page 2 in the September Gazette.

A Flame Game will be available for children to play. They can also collect a fun-pack and fireman’s hat.
